How can you get finger nail polish off of hardwood floors without taking the clear coat off of the floor?

Hope it doesn't cover a large area.

Put ice on the polish and leave it for about 10 minutes. Use a plastic picnic knife and see if you can lift an edge of the paint. Sometimes you can peel it away. Any residual can be removed with superfine steel wool.

Your other option it to purchase some acetone free nail polish remover. Go into a corner of the floor, put some on a que tip and rub it on the floor finish. Let dry. Check to see if it affects the finish. If it does, cover the test spot with two coats of clear nail polish. If it doesn't--then you should be able to use it on the spill.

You need to use a non-acetone nail polish remover.
