Why do we have finger and toe nails?

to protect the ends of our toes/fingers and also to scratch our itches!Why do we have finger and toe nails?
If nails are there to protect the skin under them, dnt you think we should have nails all over? how would u call it then? bodynail? lol!Why do we have finger and toe nails?
So we can paint them of course.
To help us grip things/ dig into them and to scratch with.





Plus they make it easier to be extremely precise.
For protection and use as tools for digging and etc.....bears, dogs and cats all still use their nails. It's a primal thing.
Vestigal remains of the claws needed by our (very) distant ancestors.
guys nails are not ment to be used as tools!!!!!





we have them to protect the skin under them, thats why they should never be to short!! they are hard to protect as they are at the ends of the body (if that makes sense)... dont use them as tools though or the nails will break and damage the underlying structures
to complete our human anatomy????

So we can spend hours at the salon getting them made to look pretty of course!!
